"Is Psoriasis contagious?"
Absolutely not. Psoriasis is not a threat of any kind to other people. In addition, Psoriasis lesions are not considered to be "open" infections or wounds.
"Is Psoriasis limited to certain body areas?"
No. Psoriasis can be found anywhere on the body. Psoriasis is commonly found on the knees, elbows, torso, and the scalp. Other areas such as the face and in the genital area are considered to be rare.
"Is there a Psoriasis cure?"
Currently there is no cure for Psoriasis. Mainly to the fact that the causes of Psoriasis cannot be isolated. There are psoriasis treatments that can control the Psoriasis and treatments that can put you into remission. Research is constant to find a Psoriasis cure.
"Can Psoriasis be diagnosed?"
Psoriasis can basically be diagnosed only by a physician through examination. There are no traditional blood or urine tests to determine Psoriasis. There are some clinics and universities that can examine a skin biopsy for a Psoriasis diagnosis.
"What are the FDA approved Over The Counter (OTC) ingredients for Psoriasis Treatments?"
There are 2 ingredients in specific percentages that are FDA approved in a Psoriasis Treatment. They are: 1) Coal Tar in strengths varying from 0.5% to 5.0%, and 2) Salicylic Acid in strengths varying from 1.8% to 3%.
"Can you die from Psoriasis?"
Yes, but this is pretty rare. Reports show that approximately 300-400 people die each year from complications caused by their Psoriasis, and injection-based treatments. Another reason to be wary of biological treatments such as Methotrexate, Enbrel, and Amevive.
"Is Psoriasis hereditary?"
Yes. Heredity does play a part in Psoriasis. Approximately 1 of 4 Psoriasis cases has some type of relative involvement.
"How many people suffer from Psoriasis?"
There are approximately 7-10 million people, in the United States alone, with some form of Psoriasis. New occurrances of Psoriasis are diagnosed at a rate of about 250,000 cases per year. |
